There are a million things I could have blogged about over the last few days; so many activities, so many stories, but this one touched me the most. Trainee Lifeguard – Charlie!
a
We’ve all been thoroughly spoilt recently with the exceptional weather, and with it Nature Walks, Cycle Tours, Yoga and of course, every one’s favourite, Pool Parties. It seems that whatever you put up on the chalk board, nothing quite hits the mark like them. And yesterday’s was no exception.
a
Late check-ins with children didn’t even have the option to unpack before their little ones were hurtling down the corridor and out to poolside. Now one of these was Charlie. Charlie’s parents however had anticipated this outcome, so he was prepared on arrival. In fact to quote from a personal favourite children’s book of mine - Randolph’s Big Night Out
a
He looked Good,
He looked Great,
He was ready to Go Out!
a
Or in this particular instance get in!
a
So what was it that made everyone in the hotel melt? His little half wetsuit, proudly labelled – Trainee Lifeguard!
a
As you’ve probably already noticed, my photography skills are sorely lacking and don’t do Charlie justice, but may I take this opportunity to redress the balance by saying I am only equipped with a mobile phone camera!
a
Anyway, back to the tale. Charlie was off and outside, pumped and ready to go. He performed an excellent job strolling around, ensuring the countless other kids were safe at all times with great authority, making Wo, our Kids Concierge Manager quite redundant, before finally taking his first, tentative steps into the water.
a
Watching him bobbing there, arm bands bigger than him, eyes the size of saucers, and his first journey down the comparatively huge slide, made my day. If every one of the children that visit us are half as happy, I know we’ve done a good job.
a
And I’m thrilled to say I think they were. Slides, countless toys, crepes with chocolate sauce served from the gazebo, music pumping from the iPod, our rabbit and guinea pigs under the sun-loungers taking shade from the midday sunshine – it was all truly perfect, truly quite unique. That’s the beauty of Lamorna!
