Choughed to Biscuits – A Local Story!
a
While I was sitting back in the bar area, sipping cappuccino and discussing setting up a mini Food Fayre with our chef Ruth, local lass and coastguard, Sarah Stantan pulled into the car park with her monthly delivery of home made chutneys and relishes, plus her gorgeous son, Finn.
a
Now Finn’s quite a shy lad, typical blonde haired, blue eyed, sun drenched Cornish boy or is he? While Mum and Ruth were talking shop, him and I turned to more serious matters; the residents rabbits. It was then I discovered Finn’s secret talent…..He’d won The Chough’s Club Competition!
a
And what’s that I hear you ask? Well, Simply Cornish working with the RSPB set about sourcing a Celebratory Chough Biscuit recipe and Finn put together the end product! He choose cherries to represent their beak and legs, oats to reflect their habitat of granite Cornish cliffsides, chocolate chips as eyes and syrup quite simply because it tastes yummy!
a
The biscuits are out now and in shops everywhere, including ours in the hotel. Simply Cornish will be donating 10 pence from every box sold to help children help Choughs in Cornwall.
a
I was thrilled by this, especially as Lamorna has recently become involved with Natural England in a conservation project to support these birds on the cliff tops of our valley.
a
So when you visit, support Finn and buy his gorgeous biscuits and support our local project and take the nearby walk across Oliver Land (the home of The Tangye’s) then back along our stunning coastal path. And when you’ve done all that, why not sit down to brunch and enjoy some of Sarah’s gorgeous relishes, with Ruth’s delicious food!
