More About the Mediums and the Mentors

Drawing

Drawing is often seen as the first skill of an artist. It can be the beginning and the end of the transformation from thought to art. Both traditional and abstract, it gives expression to the creator and interpretation to the viewer.

Renowned local artist, Judith Kerr will be teaching and mentoring you over this 3 day period in the basic skills of sketching on paper with charcoal along with discussions about loooking to work with watercolours and acrylics on canvas at a later, follow on course in 2011. Judith is one of the founders of the Lamorna Kerr Arts Group and a relative of the acclaimed artist, Lamorna Birch. She both lives and works in the valley which is reflected throughout her pieces. Her husband Adam, will be giving a talk over dinner about the artistic background of Lamorna over the years and up to present day.

Stone Carving

We are proud to offer you the opportunity to work in this unusual often untapped, medium – stone. Over the 3 days you’ll be taught and guided by Baz (for more information about the sculptor and his work click here)  about choosing, developing, and working with stone to produce a piece of carved art.

This medium is closely linked with Cornwall, renowned for its granite, serpentine and soapstone, along with its Celtic history. As you discover your location you’ll see granite landmarks staggered across the backgrounds; The Merry Maidens, The Men-An-Tol, Men Scryfa – all symbolic structures with mystical backgrounds. Part of the course will also involve touring these sites for inspiration and to learn more about this fascinating material.
